We arrived in Miami on Saturday and made our way to the Intercontinental Hotel by bus transfer. The hotel is situated on Biscayne Bay in Downtown Miami and is a very nice hotel with large rooms and bathrooms. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who will be attending the next Affiliate Summit in Miami. It is also convenient as you only need to take the elevator down to the 2nd floor in order to take part in all of the activities.
We signed in on the Sunday and received a bag full of information and goodies. On the Monday we headed down for the continental buffet breakfast which was included as part of the full pass. Here we met Tara from LinkConnector and we chatted about Affiliate Marketing.
After breakfast we attended the keynote talk by Ze Frank. This guy is hilarious and he had most of the audience in fits of laughter for most of the presentation.
We spent the rest of the day attending sessions and networking at the many exhibition booths. Some of the booth exhibitors that we recognised were CJ, LinkConnector, Google and ShareaSale. We had hoped that there would be more of our specific merchants in attendance as we would have liked to have sat down with them to discuss their programs face-to-face.
We attended three sessions. The first was a panel discussion - 'What Super Affiliates Want' - with Rosalind Gardner, Scott Jangro and Jeremy Palmer. This was really directed at merchants but it was still relevant to us and it was good to hear that these super affiliates encounter the same problems as we do.
The second session was 'SEO Site Critiques' by Wil Reynolds. This speaker provided a lot of useful tools that we will be trying out when get home.
The third session was 'Secrets of a PPC Super Affiliate' by Amit Mehta. We are considering PPC at some future date so this was very informative.
During the day we also had a nice lunch, again provided free as part of the package. The meals are a great way of meeting people as you share a table with others and it is natural to just start chatting to each other.
Unfortunately we will be unable to attend the last day of the Summit due to our schedule but from the time we have spent here so far we have learnt a lot from the experience. We are hoping to attend the next Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas and I think by that time we will be more confident and won't feel as hesitant to approach the exhibitors and also ask questions during the sessions.
